The Enrollment Management Marketing and Communications team works with Undergraduate Admissions staff and other campus partners to develop strategic content targeting prospective and admitted undergraduates, their families and counselors.
With each class of new Aggies, UC Davis seeks to admit and enroll students of increasing caliber who can expand our intellectual leadership and collaborative capacity while contributing to the diversity of backgrounds and experiences already thriving at our campus.
Undergraduate Admissions Cycles
Recruitment
Though Undergraduate Admissions staff works throughout the year to connect with prospective undergraduates, during recruitment the campus actively promotes the UC application. This is done through digital advertising, events, campus tours and more. Audiences include high school students, community college students, parents and counselors.
Recruitment of prospective undergraduate applicants coincides with the Aug. 1 opening of the UC application for admission and scholarships and its closure at 11:59 p.m. Nov. 30.
Evaluation and admission
The University of California Office of the President (UCOP) sends completed applications to each campus. Undergraduate Admissions evaluators begin in December, typically completing their work by early January.
In early January, UC Davis sends application acknowledgement messages, inviting applicants to set up a secure MyAdmissions account. This web-based tool provides applicants notifications of admission decisions, financial aid and scholarship awards, pre-enrollment tasks, campus housing applications and submit the Statement of Intent to Register, or SIR.
Communication with applicants is curtailed from December through about mid-March when the campus releases first-year admission notifications.
Yield
Admitted students submit their SIRs during the yield phase. First-year applicants receive notifications of admission decisions in mid-March, while transfer applicants receive their notifications in late April.
The Enrollment Management marketing team notifies campus partners when both first-year and transfer admission notifications are delivered. Campus partners may share celebration and congratulation messages once the main UC Davis campus social media accounts post the news. Nationwide, SIR deadlines are May 1 for first-year students and June 1 for transfer students. These dates may vary for waitlist applicants, those who appeal admission decisions or those students admitted by exception.
During yield, Undergraduate Admissions and campus partners reach out to admitted students. Offices across campus work with admits letting them know about opportunities and answer their questions.
Melt
Melt refers to students who complete their SIRs but never register for fall classes. To stem this summer melt, campus partners work to engage new students throughout the summer months to keep them excited. Summer orientation and transitional programs keep admitted students connected to the campus.
Connect with us
The Enrollment Management Marketing and Communications team relies on campus partners to keep us apprised of exciting new programs and point us to student profiles and resources that can help us tell inspiring stories. Current students, young alumni and parents of current students are wonderful ambassadors for the UC Davis experience.
